January 6, 2011 - Offensive Tackle Nick Smith from Acadiana High School has been committed to the University of Louisiana at Lafayette for several months. Prior to his commitment he was also interested in Southeastern, Northwestern State, and McNeese State but ultimately decided on ULL. I asked Nick what he liked best about ULL and he said,"the location and the new coaching staff." This past season Acadiana won the Class 5A state championship, beating West Monroe who up until that game was on a 29 game winning streak. Nick said that game was "hard to put into words." "The last two plays when we scored twice to take the lead with a touchdown and a two point conversion is probably something I'll never forget," said Nick. Nick is 6-4, 265 pounds and in the weight room he benches 315, squats 465, and cleans 275. In the classroom Nick carries a 2.6 GPA. Nick won First Team All District, First Team All Acadiana, and First Team All State this past season, and he said that run blocking is his biggest strength at his position.
