David Odds

October 20, 2010 - Every year when I watch games every week from the Video Room of my office, I see some kids that just stand out because of their ability to play the game as football players.  One of those kids is David Odds, a FB/DE from Glen Oaks High School, who’s built like a six foot tree made of stone and granite and weighs 245 to 250 pounds.

This is a kid that you can’t move because he’s so strong and gives effort every play out on the field.  I watched David as a freshman start for Desire Street Academy, which is no longer a school, and back then, David was 5-11, 230 pounds or so, and could move as a FB, RB and DE for them.

In 2009, Odds played mostly FB and some DE for the team.  This year he’s a big time DE, and still a punishing FB on offense.  After getting some spot minutes as a DE his junior year and playing the position for almost a year, you can tell that he’s starting to look like a college prospect DE.  This kid is already a NFL type FB for a DIV 1 or IAA school.

He’s the type of recruit that’s kind of hidden, because he doesn’t get the ball much as a runner and doesn’t have the height to stick out on film as a true Div 1 Defensive Lineman. What I do see is a granite muscled up 245 pound, 6 foot tall kid who will either stay at FB for college, or get up to 275 or 280 pounds and be a heck of a DT for a college that takes a chance and signs him.

If you see this kid in person and on film like I have, and watch him move around you get what I’m saying really fast. David Odds has been timed at 4.69 and 4.79 in the forty before, and looks 4.7 on film, which for 245 to 250 pounds and no fat that’s impressive. The team runs a spread one back offense, so really doesn’t show or need the FB as much in 2010.  In 2009 David Odds ran for 545 yard and 5 TDS, on defense he had 35 tackles. David has a 2.5 GPA and should be ok in the ACT department by December of this year.
