October 18, 2010 - A lot of linemen leaving high school simply don’t have the size to compete at the next level.
That is not the case for Hahnville High School senior Alvin Kelly.
The senior offensive guard stands in at 6-foot-3 and weighs 380 pounds. The massive man is also a beast in the weight room, putting up extremely impressive numbers – benching 375, power cleaning 275 and squatting an incredible 600 pounds.
Carrying that much mass does take its toll in the speed department. Kelly runs the forty in about 5.8 seconds.
While the size is already built in for the collegiate play, Kelly said he is keeping his an open mind to the recruiting process. “
I’m still pretty open but at the top of my list are Oklahoma and Kansas,” he said.
The Tiger senior has recently attended an LSU football camp and a national underclassman combine camp held in Atlanta.
On the field, Kelly says he enjoys “Coming together and playing as a team and having fun.” His favorite on the field matchup? Conference foe Destrehan High School.“It’s been a rivalry since we’ve been small and since we’ve been growing up,” Kelly said.
The long time Vikings fan said he actually bases his game off of Ravens Tackle Michael Oher, and said he looks up to Oher as a role model on and off the field.
On the field Kelly loves “How [Oher] plays and how he finishes plays.”
