October 14, 2010 - Being a three sport athlete in high school is an extremely difficult task to accomplish.

Just don’t tell DeMarcus Drumgo that.

Along with earning a starting offensive guard position for Richwood High School, the 6’1”, 270-pounder plays third base for the baseball team and throws shot put, javelin and discus for his Rams.

But Drumgo said his heart is still in football.

“[For football] you have to know what you’re doing, you have to go out there with your mind ready,” Drumgo said. “I can play any position on the football field, so I feel it’s the sport I’m supposed to play.”

With his size beginning to develop, the senior has been working hard in weight room to get his strength ready for the next level. His bench at 270, his squat at 420 and his pound at an impressive 325 pounds, and he runs a 5.3 second forty.

Drumgo said he plans on sticking to football in college. He has attended football camps at ULL, ULM and Louisiana Tech, but said he is leaving his college options open.

“[I’m open to] anyone that wants me, it doesn’t really matter to me,” Drumgo said. “I’m pretty open.”

While Richwood is off to a disappointing 2-4 start, Drumgo said the last game on the schedule is the one he has circled – Carroll High School.

“It’s a rivalry game,” Drumgo said. “It’s always packed, and no matter what the schedule says, you’re going to come out there and play your hardest because you don’t want to go around the rest of the year saying that you lost to your rival school.”

Drumgo also said he enjoys watching the NFL and said he has been a San Diego Chargers fan all his life.

“I used to like [Ladanian Tomlinson],” he said. “He’s gone now and I didn’t want to be a team hopper.”
