September 13, 2010 - The Arkansas Monticello Boll Weevil's hit the Southern Jaguars in the mouth early and the Jags had a hard time recovering in a 31-7 UAM surprise victory on Saturday night from A.W Mumford stadium on the campus of Southern University. The Boll Weevils even their season record at 1-1 as the Jaguars fall to 1-1. UAM outgained Southern 371-117,and lead the Jags 21-0 at the end of the first quarter.

UAM struck quick after SU went three and out. John Polite ran 23 yards for a touchdown, on a drive that went 6 plays, 71 yards in 2:35 to go.  Ahead 7-0 after the Jags offense was stopped they punted to Senior Jywin Ceasar, who would go 94 yards to put UAM ahead 14-0 with 8:12 to play in the 1st. Southern tried to get things going with Anthony Wells blocking Derek Jambon's punt and recovering on the 23 of UAM.  The Jags drive ended with a William Griswold field goal attempt of 24 yards, which would end up blocked, recovered, and returned to the 36 of SU by Eric Crocker.  2 plays later UAM Quarterback (former Rummel Radier Scott Buisson) rushes 37 yards to the 1 yard line.  Nakita Myles scores on the next play to make it 21-0 UAM.

Senior quarterback Scott Buisson led the rushing attack with 13 carries for a net of 101 yards.  Through the air, Buisson was 9-of-15 for 164 yards with no interceptions and no touchdowns. The Boll Weevils added three more points on a 30 yard field goal by Taylor Pontius making it a 24-0 game with 7:02 to play in the second, and that would be the halftime score .

Southern

Southern scored its lone touchdown with 6:11 left in the third quarter on a six-yard run by Gary Hollimon after UAM failed to execute a fake punt from its own end zone.  Polite scored his 2nd touchdown on a 1 yard run in the third to cap an 11 play, 76-yard drive that used 4:40,which proved to be the knock out punch. This was a disappointing loss for SU.  After the game several Jaguar players admited shock and that they weren't ready for UAM. Coach Stump Mitchell was quoted as saying “we lost to a better team”, but Mitchell is confident his team will regroup and have a great season.  Southern has a week off before starting SWAC play in Huntsville, AL to play Alabama A&M.  Mitchell also said "they run a offense that is different than anyone in our league and we weren't prepared for it and that's my fault as head coach”.
