West Feliciana Head Coach Robb Odom

August 23, 2010 - West Feliciana High School is located in St. Francisville about 30 miles north of Baton Rouge. The town of St. Francisville was established in 1809 and a number of historic structures from that period still exist. Called the town "two miles long and two yards wide" because it was developed atop a narrow ridge overlooking the Mississippi River, it was the commercial and cultural center of the surrounding plantation country. I recently had a chance to visit West Feliciana High and there head football coach Robb Odom in his 6th year on the job.

The Saints from West Feliciana finished a year ago 6-5 overall and 2-2 in a very tough District with Parkview Baptist state runner ups.  Last year I was at the Redemptorsist vs. West Feliciana game with the Saints up 23-13 in the fourth quarter, before running out of gas and losing to the Wolves. This district also has a always solid Northeast Vikings team and the Baker Buffalo's under a new coach, and a new era. The Saints return 24 seniors, after losing 15 seniors from a year ago. The Saints also have tough non district games at Zachary,at Jesuit and Independence at home. West Feliciana is a very fast team, but they don't have a lot of size.

This team has a lot of track guys.  SR QB Deshawn Morrison at 5-10 170,was an all district quarterback a year ago and runs track as well, and is a third year returning starter at Quarterback.  Coach Odom expects big things from him.  SR Running Back Bill Dennis runs 4.5 also plays LB, and SR running back Roberto Johnson rushed for 700 yards a year ago also runs a 4.5.  Johnson is getting looks from a few colleges.  Both those guys run track as well. SR WR Byron Cobb runs a 4.5 and plays baseball for the Saints.  Another SR WR Wallace Scott, a 2nd team all district LB, also runs a 4.5 and runs track along with CB/WR David Haile, who runs a 4.4 at only 5'7, 155 pounds.

I enjoyed visiting Coach Odom and the Saints.  These guys are loaded with speed and can play with the best of them on any giving night. There's no doubt Parkview and Redemptorist are the favorites in this district, but watch out for the dark horse in West Feliciana.  I wish this team the best of luck going into Central for there Jamboree and Zachary September 3rd to start the season.
