August 20, 2010 - At 6-foot-5 and 270 pounds, Jesuit High School senior Matthew Andry is well on his way to building a body worthy of college football standards.

Andry is being recruited as an offensive lineman and is versatile enough to play both the tackle and guard position. He runs the forty in 5.5 seconds, and holds his own in the weight room, benching 275, squatting 415 and cleaning 250.

Andry said the best part of being out on the field is stepping up to the stiff competition, and coming out on top.

“I like playing against other good players,” Andry said. “And playing with the team and trying to win.”

And when it comes to good competition, Andry said his favorite game of the year come with the Brother Martin High School rivalry. Andry helped Jesuit to a victory in that game last season with in 24-21 nail-biter.

The young athlete also brings his talents and strength to track and field. Andry throws discus for his Blue Jays, and finished second overall in his district last year.

Andry is keeping the recruiting process fairly open, but did name a few schools at the top of his list – Richmond, Georgetown, Tulane, Louisiana Lafayette and Louisiana Monroe.

Andry said Richmond and Georgetown are the current frontrunners.

“I really like the academic side of those two schools,” he said.

Matt has also been to several recruiting camps this summer, including Tulane’s camp, ULM’s camp, and Richmond’s camp in late July.

When it comes to off-the-field activities, Andry said he loves vacationing and calls Washington D.C. his favorite destination.

“It’s the seat of the nation’s government and there are a lot of historical sites there,” Andry said.

Andry is also an avid Saints fan, and was thrilled seeing the city get their first championship.

“It was great,” he said. “It was great for the city and great for the people.”
