July 28, 2010 - East Feliciana High school is a combination of Clinton and Jackson High Schools.  The school is now relocated and renamed East Feliciana High. East Feliciana High is located in Jackson, but will play and practice football in Clinton at the old Clinton High field. East Feliciana will compete in 2A which is the classification of Clinton, the larger of the two schools. Clinton has had a much stronger football tradition than Jackson, therefore players and alums of Jackson are pretty excited. Clinton played John Curtis in the state semi finals in 2006 and has made post every season since 2003, while Jackson has not been in the playoffs since the 90’s. I got a chance to chat with East Feliciana and former Clinton coach Cederic Anderson.

We talked about all the work put into combining the schools, such as the school colors, getting the jersey’s together (which they’re still waiting on) and renaming the school’s mascot to the Tigers. Coach Anderson talked about getting the Jackson players in there in the rotation, and learning new players and coaches.  Only one of Jackson’s three coaches came over. It’s been a lot of work, but Coach Anderson, the former Tulane DB, had a very positive outlook on things and is ready for the season.

I see a very talented team with 17 seniors in all - 13 seniors from Clinton and 4 from Jackson. Guys like OT Trevante Taylor, OC Kendell Collins, RB Joseph Robinson, WR Rashon Ceaser, and De’Vontay Hogan are all first team all district. Hogan and Ceaser both have offers from Southeastern Louisiana University. Also Jama’fa Dell Jackson and Hendrick Taylor were second team all distirct.  East Feliciana opens regular season play September 3rd hosting northeast, followed by a visit to St.Helena Central.  Six of their last seven games are in district, and ironically week three is a bye week because it was the date Jackson and Clinton were scheduled play each other.

Last season Clinton made the playoffs and was eliminated in the first round by Menard the sixth seed (37-34).  District 7-2A is a strong district, and last season Episcopal, Dunham, University High, Capitol and Clinton all made the playoffs.  With Capitol, the top team a year ago, losing its top two players, this district will be a foot race to the end. I truly enjoyed spending time with the East Feliciana Tigers and their coach Cederic Anderson.  The Tigers are a very talented football team and a great bunch of athletes.  I see this team as a force to be reckoned with this year not only in 7-2A, but in 2A in general.
