July 15, 2010 - I just love a kid who plays RB with good hands, good vision, and really good speed. That’s what you have with the athletic Effrem Reed. This is a kid that has two years starting experience going into his senior season, and to start three years at a skill position is unheard of in this district.
Effrem Reed ran for 962 yards, had 14 TD’s, and caught 7 TD passes for another 423 yards in the open field of a tough 5A District. Remember this is against teams like Hahnville, Destrehan, and East St. John, who are loaded with big time defensive backs. I like how he’s so quick and so swift with his hips to bounce in and out of the hole when running the ball. Reed is also a tough 190 pound back. He squats 600 pounds, benches 350, and cleans 315.
I would not come up to hit him soft, because this stocky kid will knock you backwards. Reed is a great student with an ACT score of a 22. I think this kid has a ton of upside and will only get better in college. Think about this, when Eddie Lacy (RB – Alabama) was a senior, Effrem Reed was his backup as a young green sophomore, and Kelvin York (Fullerton Junior College) was the FB and RB also.
His top college choices given to me, in order, are Ole Miss, SMU, LSU, Northern Illinois, and Colorado. Effrem will be at the Ole Miss camp for July 16 tomorrow, and will probably be receiving a full scholarship offer from SMU by this coming Monday.
