| Warren Bates |
June 28, 2010 - Warren Bates is an interesting story for a Recruit. This is a kid who started off his career at University High School, and played as a True Freshman at U High on the varsity. Warren, I remember, at the time was 5-11, 190 pounds, and looked like a DIV 1 player in build back then.
Warren has since transferred back to St. John of Plaquemine, his hometown, and really is the star of the team going into 2010. Warren helped St. John carry a #1 ranking for most of the year in 1A last year in 2009. St. John lost in the playoff semifinals, but looks to be in the thick of it again in 2010.
Warren stands 6-0, and weighs 208 pounds as of last week. This kid is carved in stature, and also plays LB for the team on defense. This is the kind of kid that runs a 4.61 forty on a good day, but looks more like a football player in uniform than being hand timed in person. The point I’m making is he’s not going to blow you away in the forty in person, but at the same time he can run in the low 4.6 range and weighs almost 210 pounds, and is a DIV 1 football player that will be in the 220 range like an Eddie Lacy (Dutchtown and Alabama) when it’s said and done. I’m not saying he’s Eddie Lacy in ability, but he will look like him in another year in weight and speed. When he hits his upside, I think, in another year he’s got a chance to be very good. I think someone like a small In-State school or smaller out of state DI school will land a steal.
I do know he ran a forty time for LSU, but he wasn’t at full strength recently, with a minor injury, but just look at his film since his freshman season at University High and you can get all you need for what he can do. This kid will be a physical 6-0, 220 pound RB in college or a big time OLB for college.
Warren has been offered by South Alabama, ULM, and LA Tech for a full ride scholarship, and I expect many more to follow after this season. I would not be surprised if an SEC School, like a Kentucky or a Mississippi State comes in and offers before its said and done.
Bates has an ACT score of a 19 and a 2.3 GPA in the core. This kid can squat 425 pounds which shows his strength in his legs, benches 285, and cleans 215 pounds.
