| Lee with Airline Head Coach Mike Green |
June 4, 2010 - When I think of Airline High School, I think of a big school in Bossier, Louisiana, which has great sports programs, really good academics and really good sports facilities. If you’re not very familiar with Airline high school and live in another city in Louisiana or another state for that matter, you might remember the name Todd Walker - Baseball hall of fame in Louisiana, LSU star, and former major league star now retired. Does that ring a bell? Yes, he went to Airline High School. How about a kid, who was probably the best Free Safety Prospect in Louisiana, last year, named Conner Nichols who stands 6-3 and weighs 200 pounds and signed with LA Tech in Ruston. Conner has a chance to be special for LA Tech. I thought Tech signed a SEC player in Conner. There are several more DI Baseball players and Football players from the school that went on to play college ball.
I love going to a school and having to wait for the kids to get out of class. The readers might ask why would I like to wait, well, because it gives me time to meet the coaches that are new, talk with the current coach, and see the history of the school in the gym walls of former players that went on to play college ball from all sports. You also get to meet teachers or people involved with the school that tell you old stories about the school over the years. I was able to hang out with former Haynesville Star player Scott Reeder, now an assistant coach for current head coach Mike Greene. Scott told me about the Super dome experience in 1987 when Haynesville beat Ouachita Christian, and the 1990 season when they lost to Oak Grove. Those are memories you never forget playing in such a big game for your school. Scott is now the Defensive Coordinator for Airline, and he’s a pretty good one. Scott looks like he could suit up tomorrow and play college ball. Mike Greene, the current head football coach, who I’ve meet at the school a few times over the years, is a class act as well. Mike showed me around again, and helped me gather the kids for their pictures, and considering he was super busy he really helped me out a lot.
This team in 2010 has a chance on paper to be pretty good with depth speed, and some good size. It might be the best combination I’ve seen at Airline in a long time. DE Quintero Brooks (5-11, 240) can run a 4.8 forty and looks it in a game. I’ve watched this kid, and he can cover some ground chasing RB’s and QB’s. Brooks, I feel, is a steal for any IAA school, and I think he has DI ability. He squats - gets this - 665 pounds! Dalton Elliott (6-1, 230) is a mean kid in a uniform, and reads really well. Dalton won state in the DIV 1 Wrestling, weight of 215 pounds. He’s another sleeper who runs faster than he times. Dalton runs a 4.7 in the forty, but gets there on film it seems even faster. Another LB, Dominic Harris (6-1, 180), runs a 4.6 forty, and CB Michael Bell (6-3, 195), looks the part. Michael high jumps 6-2 in track. I will have more in the preview issue of more players and the team when it comes out in late July. You can order it from the site.

I would like to thank head coach Mike Greene and Assistant coach Scott Reeder for taking the time to make all this possible for the kids.
