Calvary Baptist players before spring game

May 19, 2010 - I was able to see some really good friends at the Calvary Baptist and Mansfield Spring Game. I saw John Booty, dad of Josh Booty, Abram Booty, Jake Booty and John David Booty. All these guys were great High School QB’s. I learned that John David is doing really well with the Houston Texans, and Jake is Tutoring QB’s in Shreveport. Josh travels a lot for work in Louisiana, and lives in Dallas, and Abram has two kids and lives in Shreveport. I saw former LSU DT Chase Pittman, who now coaches at Calvary Christian, and former LA Tech great Ronnie Alexander has returned to coaching and is the new Defensive Coordinator at Calvary. I was treated with first class by Brian Garrett, Offensive Line coach, and Head Coach Bo Meeks, who were both teammates at ULM in Monroe.

I see a different team this year in Calvary, a team that’s bigger, and has more numbers, and more experience, but what’s scary is they’re still young, and most of their best players are just freshman and sophomores. I see a model which one day in the near future will be a program filled with big time players and a young Head Coach in Bo Meeks who has formed a really great staff, and really works good with the kids. This school will be tough to beat in the playoffs very soon.

The facilities are incredible and Johnny Booty has done a big time great job with a lot of hard work making this possible.

I ran into Head Coach Donald Mayweather from Mansfield High School. This man has small numbers every year, but his kids compete, and play hard to the whistle. Mansfield is also young and its best players are freshman and really young guys overall. There were some really hard hits delivered at this spring game. I found out Chris Davenport, Mansfield native and DT for LSU, is down to 308 pounds from 340, and should have a really good year in 2010 for LSU.

I would like to thank the Calvary staff and Head Coach Bo Meeks for helping me before the spring game, and also Head Coach Mayweather from Mansfield for keeping his team around after the game to talk to me. I wish these schools a lot of success in 2010.
