April 29, 2010 - If you would have told me a year ago that LB Perry Riley (LSU) would have been drafted before RB Charles Scott (LSU), I would have said no way that was going to happen. However, it did. LB Perry Riley went in Round 4 to the Washington Redskins, and he’s a good football player, but prior to Scott’s injury senior season, which was also hurt by a offense that did not know what they were, and could not throw the ball (LSU), Scott in some NFL eyes after his Junior year was at worse a 2 Round pick. I predict Scott will be the steal of the draft on offense after going in Round 6 in the NFL draft.
They always say life is about timing and being at the right place at the right time, well Scott will be on the right NFL team, at the right time for success. How would you like to play for a head coach Andy Reid who has 5 trips to the NFC Championship game, and 5 Division titles since he took over as a coach in 1999, play on a offense with a veteran offensive line lead by two former SEC veteran lineman Jason Peters (6-4, 340), from Arkansas, and Stacy Andrews (6-7, 342) from Ole MISS, and throw in up and coming OT Winston Justice (6-6, 325) from USC. What about two of the most exciting young WR’S in the NFL in DeSean Jackson (5-10 170), who runs a 4.3 forty, and Jeremy Maclin, (6-0, 198), who is also big time. Play in a backfield where you don’t have to be the guy right away but be the 2 or 3 back, when someone goes down with an injury or a key player in the second half of the season. RB Lesean McCoy (5-10 198), who’s a star in the making from Pittsburgh, and recently picked up RB Mike Bell (6-0, 225) from the Saints. At worst Scott will be the 3 back in the rotation, and could beat out Bell who usally stays hurt for a full season.
Scott fits the offense that Philly runs, smash mouth, tough nose, like the city, where I lived as a teen building tennis courts in 1990. The fans are great and it’s cold in the fall, and a tough place to play for the visitor. It will also be fun to watch Michael Vick (6-0, 125), who got the rust off last year, and back into form for 2010 hand off to Charles Scott, or the Drop back QB Kevin Kolb (6-3, 218) throw the ball down field . Scott has good hands; he’s tough, and faster than most 238 pounds Running backs.
Charles will play in a conference where defenses like Washington and Dallas tend to give up a lot of yards, as well as the Giants. It will also be fun to watch former LSU players Perry Riley LB, DT Howard Green, and SS Laron Landry Washington Redskins, try and tackle this big guy, when they tangle twice a year.
The reason Andy Reid has won every year since 1999 is because he knows talent and knows how to draft great players in the lower rounds. Scott could be the key in 2010 to give the offense that bruising back they need to go along with Lesean McCoy to win a 6 Division Title for head coach Any Reid.
