Q and A with Denham Springs Offensive Lineman Kale Buchholtz

September 20, 2009 - Q: What position do you play?
A: I play anywhere on the offensive line and defensive line. I haven’t played on the defensive line yet this year because they pulled us out with the two teams we’ve played because we’ve beaten them so badly. I haven’t even gotten to play defense yet, but I will play defense this week.

 

Q: What’s your favorite food?
A: My favorite food? That’s hard. I eat everything. I would have to say seafood.

 

Q: Where did you learn to play football?
A: Through my high school coaches definitely, and when I was younger I went to a few summer camps. Coach Barrilleaux, our new offensive line coach, has definitely been a huge factor.

 

Q: What’s your favorite play to run in high school?
A: If I’m playing left guard its 34 power and if I’m playing left tackle its 12 dart, anything I get to pull on. I like pulling plays.

 

Q: What’s your favorite stadium to play in?
A: Honestly my favorite place to play is our home field because our fans are crazy. The coolest place I ever played was either LSU’s indoor facility, or when I went to Chicago and played on an artificial field up there.

 

Q: What would be your favorite stadium to play in?
A: I would love to play in Tiger Stadium. I go all the time for games.

 

Q: What’s your favorite college team?
A: LSU. Easy, easy, easy.

 

Q: What’s your favorite vacation spot?
A: North Carolina. It’s really nice up there, and I like the mountains.

 

Q: How long have you been playing football?
A: I started playing football in seventh grade. I didn’t start actually playing until freshman year.

 

Q: What are your goals for 2009?
A: Definitely have a better season than last year and make it farther in the playoffs. For individual goals, I would definitely say make All–District, and I want to make the Red Stick Bowl. The Bayou Bowl would be sweet.

 

Q: What would be your top three college teams to play for?
A: Top three would be Rice, Tulane and the University of Pennsylvania.

 

Q: Do any of your family members play or have they played in NFL or college?
A: My uncle, Brigg Moran, played at Arkansas Monticello, and I think that’s about it. There are not very many guys in my family.

 

Q: Why do you like football?
A: I just like playing football. It’s just my life.

 

Q: What’s been your greatest achievement?
A: The greatest achievement I’ve made so far in football would have to be starting my junior year. Well I started my sophomore year at tight end which was kind of a big deal because hardly any sophomores play at Denham, and then I also made All-Parish.

 

Q: What’s been the best game you played in?
A: Definitely would be the Catholic game from last year just because that’s the first time we’ve beaten them in over 30 years, and we broke their three or four year winning streak in district.

 

Q: Who is your mentor?
A: I look up to my step-dad and my offensive line coach, Coach Barrilleaux.

 

Q: Who’s your best friend on the team?
A: The whole offensive line, we’re really close. My best friends on the team would be the offensive line and our running back, Aaron Webb.

 

Q: What’s your favorite pro team?
A: I don’t really watch a lot of NFL, but I guess if I’d pick one it would be the Colts.

 

Q: Why are the Colts your favorite pro team?
A: Just because I have always watched them. I just kind of keep up with them, and they always have a good team.

 

Q: Do you play any other sports besides football?
A: I’m on the track team, and I throw javelin. I throw javelin, shot and discus actually. But out of those three, I’m the best at javelin.

Q: What are your hobbies besides football?
A: Hunting, fishing and working on racecars.

 

Q: What would you say your best quality is as a person?
A: I’m respectful to my elders, and I’m fun to be around.

 

Q: What do you think would be the best thing that you would bring to any team that you would play for?
A: The best thing that I could bring would be leadership and commitment.
